Enjoy A.R. Gurney’s story of the sometimes intimate, sometimes tempestuous relationship between Andy and Melissa in the ACT Readers Theatre production of Love Letters in the Alleghany County Library, Thursday January 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Alleghany County Library is located at 122 North Main Street in Sparta, North Carolina.
Critically acclaimed by Time Magazine as “one of the best American plays of the decade,” this play follows the intertwined lives of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. The characters are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. As Melissa and Andy age and take separate directions, their lives are continually and intimately connected through the series of love letters they exchange.

His previous ACT experience includes readers theatre productions of The Scarlett O’Hara Complex (Earl), The Odd Couple (Oscar), and The Houskeeper (director). Presnell has also appeared in Where the Lillies Bloom, Amateurs, Nuptials, and All My Sons; plus, he directed Faith County and is a co-producer and cast member of ACT’s annual Acting Up in the Barn variety shows.
Playing Melissa Gardner, is Mary Jane Ciraco. Born in Philadelphia. PA, Mary Jane moved to Alleghany County from central Florida about five years ago as a "summer resident" but ended up staying here. She is retired from Ryder Sytem, Inc. in Miami, FL. She danced with the Gator Country Cloggers (DeLand, FL) with their exhibition team for about 12 years and is currently one of the line dancing instructors at the Alleghany Jubilee in Sparta.
